Preparing for our visit:

Your time is important and you may wish to spend time discussing matters on which you are uncertain or asking about inheritance tax and trusts and so on.

If you are able to prepare some of the information that we will need in advance this will save your time and give more time for discussion and advice.

Please will you:

  • Decide who should be responsible for carrying out your wishes in respect of the administration of your will. Ideally you should nominate two people and obtain their consent. They are termed executors please provide their names and addresses. It is not a good idea to nominate a parent since the older generation normally dies first!

  • Decide who will be your trustees in the event that there are minor children who may inherit or in the event that other trusts are set up. The Trustees are responsible for holding your assets and carrying out your wishes. Please provide names and addresses. Your executors can also be trustees

  • Decide who should be a guardian(s) of any minor children. Please provide names and addresses

  • List all your property and assets including pension death benefits, life assurance death benefits, valuables, business assets, and any possible inheritance that you may receive.

  • If you own your home with another person and you have the title documents to your home (or a Land Registry search print out) It will be useful to check the precise legal title. This can also be done by accessing Land Register On Line.

  • If you have any Life Assurance it may be useful to check the documents. It is often advisable to write these in trust.

You may also wish to consider:

  • Do you wish to state your preferences in the event that you may become very seriously ill?
  • Do you wish to protect your property from the levy of Care Fees?
  • Do you wish to consider the possible impact of Inheritance Tax and how this may be minimised?
  • A Will that cannot be found is as bad as no Will. Do you wish to consider secure storage of your Will which can be recalled by you at any time?
